Sheriff Blake Dorning announced today that beginning Tuesday December 1st, Madison County residents wanting to apply for a concealed weapon Pistol Permit will be able to do so on-line at the Sheriff’s Office website www.madisoncountysheriffAL.org. Applicants once on the site will look for vertical tabs on the left side of the page and will click on “Pistol Permits”. This tab will display a link to the new on-line secure application system that will allow an applicant to create an account with a log-on name and password and fill-in the required information necessary for a background check required by law. Payment options are available to pay on-line with a debit or credit card for a service fee or pay at the counter in the Sheriff’s second floor Courthouse office with cash or check and no service fee.
When the background check is completed within the allotted 30 day period, the applicant will be notified by email, text, or automated telephone call that their permit is ready for pickup. A valid Driver’s License or State ID card verifying residency will be required to pick-up the permit. Permits are issued Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm in Room 206. Permits will need to be picked up within 60 days of issuance or the background check will be required to be reprocessed. Renewals for existing permit holders will be required to also create an account on-line to renew their permit under this new system. Additional information and frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) regarding Permits will be also available on the Pistol Permit tab concerning this new process.
Madison County Sheriff Dorning said, “We want to streamline the permit process as much as possible and make it more convenient for our citizens. At the current time we can only process new applicants during business hours. With the new system, permits can be applied for anytime, day or night, weekends or holidays at the comfort of your home or at your business by going on-line. Our goal is to help us to enhance convenience and better serve our public”.
