Investigation Leads To Child Pornography Arrest

Sheriff Blake Dorning announced today at approximately 10:30 am Criminal Investigators from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security executed a search warrant for the residence and business locations of Robert Stephen Smith, white male, born 11-03-1962. Search warrants were executed at his residence located in the 11000 block of Chicamauga Trail, SE in Huntsville, Alabama and his place of employment located on Church St. in Huntsville, Alabama for the Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography. The initial search of the business and residence netted the seizure of several types of electronic media devices where pornographic images and videos depicting female children of various ages were located. Upon completion of the search warrants, Smith was transported to Madison County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and interviewed. He was subsequently arrested for Possession of Child Pornography and Dissemination/Display of Child Pornography. He was placed in the Madison County Jail with bond set at $40,000.

Possession of Child Pornography is a Class C Felony punishable by one to 10 years in the custody of the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Dissemination/Display of Child Pornography is a Class B Felony punishable by two to 20 years in the custody of the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Robert Stephen Smith was arrested on probable cause by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and is presumed innocent until determined otherwise by the judicial system.
