Madison County Man Breaks Into Home, Shot by Owner

Sheriff Blake Dorning announced today that on October 8th, 2016, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 400 block of Darwin Road in Huntsville, Alabama, for a call for service. Upon arrival, Deputies met with the homeowner of the residence and Travis Kirk Martin, white male, born in 1976. The homeowner advised that they recently evicted the prior occupant and were staying at the residence to clean it up. The home had been previously broken into causing damage to the front door. The door was nailed shut and entry was made into the home by the suspect through the window. The homeowner was awakened by Martin who was in the residence unlawfully. At that time, the homeowner shot Mr. Martin and summoned the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for additional assistance. Mr. Martin was transported to Huntsville Hospital via HEMSI. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an Investigation into this incident and will obtain warrants for Martin when the appropriate charges are determined. At this time, the homeowner will not be charged with any criminal offense.
